William Shakespeare, considered one of England's greatest poets and playwrights, was born in a small town outside of London, Stratford-upon-Avon, in 1564. William was the third of eight children born to John and Mary Shakespeare. H ewas educted at the Stratford Grammar School, but did not go on to any type of university. At the age of eighteen he married Anne Hathaway. Five years later, he and Anne left for London. Before he hit it big with his poems and plays, he worked at the Globe Theater and first appeared in public in 1593 with his poem, "Venus and Adonis," and after a while he became joint proprietor of the Globe. He retired from writing in 1611, whereafter he returned to Stratford. Anne bore him three children, one of whom died as a young child. Five years after returing home, he died and was burried in the Church of the Holy Trinity, the same church where he was baptised. Some have said he died after an evening's drinking with his theater friends. His gravestone reads: Good frend for Jesus sake forebeare, to digg the dust encloased heare, Bleste be ye man yt spares thes stones, And curst be he yt moves my bones.
